Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In is a high-octane Hong Kong action film about the real-life Kowloon Walled City, a completely self-governed tower of buildings in British Hong Kong where tens of thousands of people lived outside the law. Based on the best-selling graphic novel, this film tells the story of both the support it provided for refugees and outcasts, as well as the dangerous triad conflicts which determined leadership of the city. Set in the 1980s, troubled youth Chan Lok-kwun accidentally enters the Walled City, discovers the order amidst its chaos, and must decide between his ambitions and the community he has found.
With action set-pieces of legendary Hong Kong choreography and a Jackie Chan-esque impulse to utilise every aspect of the environment in a fight scene, this becomes a Hong Kong spin on Dredd by way of John Wick, while still emphasising the importance of direct action in disenfranchised communities.
