Básculas Blanco, a Spanish company producing industrial scales in a provincial town, awaits an imminent visit from a committee judging whether they merit a local Business Excellence award: everything has to be perfect when the time comes. Working against the clock, the company’s owner pulls out all the stops to resolve issues with his employees, crossing every imaginable line in the process. Skillful, charming and manipulative, “the good boss” is the man with his finger on the scales, shamelessly involving himself in the personal lives of his workers to improve the company’s productivity.
Combining the workplace satire of Severance with the inappropriate interpersonal meddling of Emma, Javier Bardem shines in a hilarious comedy questioning whether there even is such a thing as a good boss. Director Aranoa describes it as "a tragicomic tale of a worn-out labor ecosystem, without heroes or villains" - but whether or not Blanco qualifies as either is up to you!
