Welcome to World Jam
The World Jam Collective-formerly known as Word Jam collective- was founded by a group of ESOL (English as a Second Language) students in 2012 and has been directed since by Mina Fatemi. The initial purpose of the group was to create a supportive network for non-English speaking poets and writers living in Nottingham.
World Jam’s first performance was at Nottingham’s 2013 Festival of Words. This very successful multilingual and intercultural event introduced the group to the Nottingham poetry and music scene. After being approached by many local poets and musicians, World Jam evolved into an intercultural poetry and music group.
World Jammers are from a very diverse group of people including asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants, students and local English performers. The group has so far accommodated speakers of more than 17 languages and has celebrated the UK’s diversity of languages and cultures through participating in many poetry and music festivals within Nottingham and the East Midlands.
We organise writing workshops, concerts and jams, produce poetry anthologies, and provide our members with live performance opportunities and translation of their poetry and lyrics.
